!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , adds some content of her own which makes it sound like something it’s not, and does all this a day after the event when there’s much more informed reporting than the Autosport flash all over the web. Genius.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

“Hayden Paddon was driving a Hyundai i20 WRC when the vehicle’s speed carried it off the road and into the group of spectators.” Strictly speaking correct, he was driving a Hyundai and its speed did carry it off the road. But totally misleading, both as to the cause of the crash and the cause of the injuries. He hit an unexpected rut going over a flat out crest, got off line, rolled it, and only then did the vehicle’s momentum carry it into spectators who were standing somewhere stupid ( !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ). Speed was only a factor inasmuch as race cars go fast.

My sympathy to Paddon: crashing, and even hurting yourself or your co-driver, sucks but the possibility is part of the deal if you want to race. Hurting bystanders is something you hope never to do. Even if they are the ones at fault, which appears to be the case here. Fortunately he was mentally able to get back on the horse and complete the rally.

Well, this is what happens when you hire somebody out of nowhere to talk about stuff they don’t know much or anything about...

I still don’t undertand why week end editors are not picked in the Oppo community. DasWauto or 505 for exemple have proven to be largely capable of putting interesting articles together and make them stand out for everyone to enjoy.

Instead all we get are Stef’s articles (nothing against her in particular, she does her job very well, but if I want to learn about car racing, I go check out a motorsport website... One, or two articles summurazing the best of the sport news are fine, but when the whole day is made of 70% of motorsport articles all written by Stef... meh..) along with a couple other articles lost in there somewhere...

Personally I like Stef’s stuff, but yes, the FP gets pretty thin at the weekend, and you’re right that they’d do well to get someone(s) onboard from from Oppo to fill it out.

We’re getting all this for free, so we don’t get to throw too many stones at their judgement, but this sort of once-over-lightly not-quite-plagiarism from low buck freelance journos doesn’t do Jalopnik’s brand any good. They’re not a news site, so they shouldn’t try to be unless they’re prepared to fund it properly.

Glad I’m not alone in noticing the drop in weekend quality. Hopefully Nicole adjusts, but rarely if ever see her comment. Small deal, but it’s odd considering how active the rest of Gawker authors are about comments.

I’ve long felt that all the weekend crew does is promote other people’s posts to make news or take someone else’s article, write a couple sentences as an intro, and call it their own.

Thanks very much for the compliment, I appreciate it. I don’t think I have the time or willpower to produce content at the pace that would be required if I wanted to do it professionally but it’s something I enjoy on a casual basis.
